Frequently asked questions
What is a kePub file, and how is it different from EPUB?
kePub is Kobo's optimized variant of the EPUB format. It adds invisible sentence-level markers (koboSpans) that let Kobo e-readers track your position within each chapter — unlocking per-chapter reading statistics, estimated time to finish a chapter, and bookmarks and highlights anchored to sentences.
Why should I convert my EPUB to kePub?
A standard EPUB opens fine on a Kobo, but without the sentence markers Kobo cannot track where you are inside a chapter. Reading statistics, chapter reading time, and precise bookmarks may be missing or unreliable. Converting to kePub enables the full experience.
Can I just rename my .epub file to .kepub.epub?
Not recommended. Renaming alone lets Kobo open the book, but the sentence markers are still missing — chapter stats stay inaccurate and bookmarks can land in the wrong place. A real conversion processes the book's content, which is exactly what this tool does.
Which devices support kePub?
All Kobo e-readers (Clara, Libra, Elipsa, Sage, and others) support kePub natively. Kindle, PocketBook, and most other readers do not use kePub — for those, keep the standard EPUB version.
